On June 25, the Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) hosted the eleventh meeting of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Partnership for Defense (PfD), focusing on AI Use Cases: From Identification to Impact. The PfD is a forum for 16 like-minded defense institutions to exchange best practices on data and artificial intelligence transformation within the defense sector.
The eleventh iteration of the PfD commenced with opening remarks by the DoD’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer, Dr. Douglas Matty. The event showcased presentations, including use-cases from leading experts across the globe. They shared insights on critical topics, from successes and challenges related to AI and mission autonomy to the practical implementation of prototypes.
“As each of you know, the AI era in defense is not coming—it’s here. The question is not whether we will adopt these tools, but how quickly, responsibly, collaboratively, and strategically we will do so,” said Dr. Douglas Matty, Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Officer.
Established in 2020, the PfD draws senior defense officials and subject matter experts from across the globe and has strengthened collaboration on data, analytics, and AI among key allies and partners. The forum provides a platform for participants to exchange knowledge and expertise on a broad range of critical topics, including AI ethics, data readiness, strategic partnerships, and human capital development. Over time, the PfD has evolved into a distinctive venue for international partners to leverage best practices in AI transformation, collaboratively address shared challenges, and advance AI-enabled interoperability.
