Position Summary

The Chief Digital and AI Office (CDAO), under the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering (OUSW R&E), is seeking highly qualified Reserve and National Guard officers in the grades of O3-O5 to serve as Military Deputies to the CDAO Senior Representative at each Combatant Command (CCMD) and the Joint Staff. In this role, you will drive the validation of emerging operational and intelligence capabilities while embed with operational forces at the CCMDs to test, demonstrate, and prove new CDAO-developed solutions in realistic field environments, ensuring they meet the needs of the warfighter.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operational or intelligence roles, with a proven ability to act as a liaison between technical development teams and tactical end-users. Experience in joint operations, requirements generation, and technology integration is highly desirable. A passion for innovation and a relentless drive to deliver tangible results in complex environments are essential qualities for success in this role.

Successful applicants will be high-performing military officers from any Service who are passionate about applying cutting-edge AI, deep learning, and data analytics to create a transformational warfighting advantage. Candidates must have proven experience operating within fast-paced, challenging, and multifaceted projects. A demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams—comprising technical, financial, analytical, and managerial experts—is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and intelligence leadership to a mixed team of 5-10 Government Civilians and Contractors in support of the CDAO Senior Representative.
  • Act as the embedded Deputy CDAO Representative within a Combatant Command, responsible for building key relationships and identifying the command's unique operational requirements.
  • Drive the integration of data analytics and AI capabilities to enhance warfighting intelligence and operational functions.
  • Translate senior leader intent and complex operational challenges into actionable, AI-driven projects and data-informed solutions.
  • Brief, advise, and collaborate with senior Department of War and Military leaders (General/Flag Officer level) to provide progress updates, capture strategic requirements, and ensure alignment with CDAO goals.
  • Exercise disciplined initiative to navigate complex and often ambiguous environments, making critical decisions to advance the CDAO mission.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a Warfighting Command Post at the 2-star level or higher.
  • Demonstrated experience in the practical application of data analytics, machine learning, or artificial intelligence to solve real-world warfighting challenges.
  • While not required, technical degrees (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science) and relevant professional certifications will be considered advantageous during the selection process.
