Department Lead for Data, Analytics and AI Adoption Announces Additional Open DAGIR Acquisition

ARLINGTON, Va – Today the Department of Defense (DoD) Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) announced another award under its Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories, or Open DAGIR, multi-vendor ecosystem that enables industry and government to integrate data platforms, development tools, services, and applications in a way that preserves government data ownership and industry intellectual property.

The award is for a production agreement for edge data integration services, a tactical data mesh solution that builds upon the success of a competitively-awarded prototype other transaction agreement (OTA) CDAO has led for the last three years to improve interoperability among legacy systems in the Joint Force.  CDAO tested the prototype capability through its Global Integration Dominance Experimentation (GIDE) series, in which it enabled Joint and coalition units to dynamically share data in a secure and timely manner via small and large form factor nodes.

The capability now moving into production enables low-latency data exchange across multiple networks, domains, organizations, and echelons. Consistent with Open DAGIR principles, it provides an open government-owned data infrastructure that supports third-party data and applications via open Application Programming Interfaces (API). This approach allows users to customize tactical data services to support unique mission needs while retaining interoperability with the Joint force. The CDAO will continuing the existing prototype OTA to demonstrate additional data and application integration with the edge data integration services with the goal of scaling future capabilities into production.

“We are building out the multi-vendor Open DAGIR ecosystem with capabilities that protect government data rights while enabling greater commercial innovation,” said CDAO Dr. Radha Plumb. “This newest Open DAGIR award also leverages the best practice of accelerating capability development through experimentation and quickly scaling proven solutions into the hands of warfighters.”

The TDS production OTA is positioned to support CDAO and other program offices throughout the Department. The Deputy Director of the Navy’s Project Overmatch stated, “I am excited to see CDAO scale its Open DAGIR ecosystem. I view this capability as a force-multiplier, potentially increasing our ability to share mission-critical data vertically from strategic to tactical applications while integrating horizontally across the Joint Force, as well.”

About the CDAO

The CDAO became operational in June 2022 and is dedicated to integrating and optimizing artificial intelligence capabilities across the DoD. The office is responsible for accelerating the DoD’s adoption of data, analytics, and AI, enabling the Department’s digital infrastructure and policy adoption to deliver scalable AI-driven solutions for enterprise and joint use cases, safeguarding the nation against current and emerging threats.
