Mr. Andrew (Andy) Mapes is a career DoD civilian serving as the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Secretary of Defense Chief Digital & Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO).
Prior to arriving at CDAO, Mr. Mapes was a civilian career intelligence officer at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) assigned as Deputy Staff Director and Strategic Advisor to the Deputy DNI for Mission Integration where he received the Director of National Intelligence’s Distinguished Service Award. Before his role at ODNI, Mr. Mapes served in a non-career Senior Executive Service (SES) role as the Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the OSD Chief Management Officer (CMO) earning the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service. He has also performed prior program management and consultant roles in industry supporting defense and intelligence community clients.
Also an Army Reservist, Mr. Mapes serves as an Army Functional Area 30 Information Operations Officer assigned to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. He has two prior military deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Mapes holds a Juris Doctorate from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Franklin College. He earned his commission in the U.S. Army through the Indiana University-Indianapolis Army ROTC program.
