AI/ML Test, Assessment, and Evaluation Technical Expert

INTRODUCTION

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) was established to enable the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components, to serve on a Cross-Functional Team (CFT) to swiftly introduce new capabilities and effectively experiment with new operational concepts in support of DoD's warfighting missions and business functions with the overarching goal of accelerating the delivery of AI-enabled capabilities, scaling the Department-wide impact of AI, and synchronizing DoD AI activities to expand Joint Force advantages. A CFT is an inter-disciplinary team including military officers, acquisition officials, and technical experts.

The Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) is looking for a Senior Advisor and Technical Expert for the development and deployment of National and DoD artificial intelligence mission initiatives. In this role, you would serve as the JAIC’s Technical Expert for the design, development, and implementation of National and DoD artificial intelligence mission initiatives.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Approve test plans and procedures for system/component test and evaluation and development of new AI T&E tools/technologies.
  • Lead interaction with other DoD agencies, and Engineering Principle Director for AI.
  • Coordinate division activities with JAIC Leadership and Division Heads.
  • Participate in the development of overall JAIC strategic planning and ensure that the division plans.
  • Act as the lead Subject Matter Expert for T&E of AI-enabled systems throughout the DoD.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on available test processes, test methodologies, test techniques available within the JAIC, DoD, industry, and academia.
  • Approve project test plans, test schedule, resource needs, and test performance metrics to conduct test and evaluation activities for End User testing, Operational testing, and UI/UX testing.
  • Oversee the formulation and management of test design activities for verification and validation of AI/ML systems and solutions.
  • Oversees the development of Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP) for JAIC funded efforts.
  • Supervise independent analysis leading to unique analytical research proposals and studies.
  • Utilize professional mathematic, statistics and engineering knowledge to translate operational requirements for AI systems to testing requirements.
  • Participate in technical exchange meetings (TEM) with industry and academic Institutions.
  • Oversee the development of reports and generate briefings to communicate technical aspects of test plans, events, and analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Assignments include high visibility AI programs, unusual urgency or critical issues which require application of the full range of advanced scientific and experimental techniques.
  • Identifies the technical risk in testing of projects, particularly for assessing the limitations of planned tests on complex AI systems.
  • Extensive experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning capability/requirements definitions, test and evaluation planning, developmental testing, operational testing, and assessment.
  • Expert experience with the design and deployment of test, assessment, and evaluation methodologies for artificial intelligence and machine learning systems.
  • Expert knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science concepts, methodology, techniques, and technologies.
  • Extensive experience with leading artificial intelligence and machine learning systems design and performance analysis models, algorithms, and tools.
  • Experience with software intensive systems, including the architecting of systems, and human factors engineering.

EDUCATION

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below and provide transcripts with the required degree at time of application.

  • GG-0801/0854 Professional Engineering Series: Four-year Professional Engineering degree.
  • GG-1550 Computer Science Series: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science (at least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus).
  • GS-1515 Operations Research Series: Bachelor's degree or higher in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics (at least 3 of the 24 semester hours have been in calculus).
  • GS-1529 Mathematical Statistics Series: Degree that includes 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.

All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
